YEREVAN. - According to Armenia’s National Statistical Service, compared with the same period of 2013, in 2014 retail food prices increased on average by 0.9% in the republic, Armenian News - NEWS.am reports.

However, during the period from 2003 to 2013, consumer prices in Armenia increased by an average of 72.6%, which is high when compared with 20.2% increase in the European Union. To identify long-term trends, experts compared prices reported by Armenia’s National Statistical Service reported with application of the same method in September of 2006 with the prices reported in September of 2014. As it turned out, during the last eight years, the price of bread increased by 160%, beef prices went up by over 160%, pork costs by 210% more, and lamb price is by 190% up compared to 2006. The price of cheeses increased by an average of 170%, and the average price of the butter went up by 280% since 2006.
