YEREVAN. – The Assyrian community in Armenia is displeased with Armenia’s demeanor towards the Assyrian Genocide, which the country has not formally recognized to this day.

Irina Gasparyan, who is President of the Federation of Assyrian Organizations of Armenia, stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Thursday.

She noted that against the backdrop of international political developments, Armenia has put the Assyrian Genocide issue on the backburner, and given priority to the European Union and the Customs Union (CU) integration processes.

“Our community supports the decision of Armenia to CU integration. The Assyrians have always raised their genocide issue together with the Armenian Genocide issue, whereas when raising the Armenian Genocide issue, the Armenians disregard the genocide of the Assyrians,” Gasparyan specifically stated.

She added that they will raise the Assyrian Genocide issue internationally next year, and also submit a corresponding bill to the Armenian National Assembly.
