YEREVAN. - I wonder why the Ombudsman of Armenia in his annual report for 2013 did not touch upon the victims of March 1 (2008), asked opposition Armenian National Congress parliament group head Levon Zurabyan during his speech in the parliament, Armenian News - NEWS.am reports.

He noted that the killings of March 1, 2008, when opposition rally participants were shot in Yerevan downtown, even drew the attention of UN Commissioner for Human Rights.

“He [the Commissioner] demanded to finally recognize these killings and pay compensation to the relatives of the victims. Why didn’t you talk about it in your report?” Zurabyan asked, referring his question to the Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan.

In the March 1, 2008, during the confrontation between the authorities and opposition in Yerevan city downtown, eight protesters and two soldiers of the Internal Troops were killed. No one has been punished for the deaths.
