YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party National Assembly (NA) Faction Secretary Tevan Poghosyan, who is also a member of the NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs, doubts that the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) will ensure the external and internal security of Armenia.

“The frontline and the army are not the sole security; the internal security matter is important, too. We can’t speak about the dreamed security without resolving these issues.

“Unfortunately, there is great doubt, within the framework of [Armenia’s] EaEU accession, as to what we [, Armenia,] can copy from there, or what will these countries’ reforms be that then they impact on our systems.

“We need to collaborate with the EaEU solely economically, whereas we need to sign, with the European Union [EU], the political component of the [EU] Association Agreement,” Poghosyan told reporters on Wednesday.

The opposition MP also expressed a view that, when signing the Association Agreement, Armenia should not consider the respective position by Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.

Armenia signed, on October 10 in the Belarusian capital city of Minsk, the treaty on accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, whose founding members are Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.
