YEREVAN. – Iran’s involvement in the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Armenia was discussed during the Armenian prime minister’s recent visit to Iran, Iranian Studies specialist Vardan Voskanyan said at a press conference on Wednesday.
In his words, the interlocutors in these meetings primarily discussed cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector.
“If Iran’s participation in the construction of Armenia’s new nuclear power plant becomes a reality, Armenian-Iranian relations will rise to a completely new level; I would call them strategic, economic relations,” Voskanyan stressed.
The expert, however, added that there are obstacles in connection with Iran.
“Presumably, the [Western] sanctions against Iran have eased to some extent. And if an agreement is reached in the negotiations on the nuclear program [of Iran], these sanctions will ease further in the near future.
“In this case, Iran will have significant opportunities to participate in all the projects which were not implemented at that interval due to financial problems,” Vardan Voskanyan stated.
