Nasimi District Court of Azerbaijan’s capital city of Baku on Friday considered the appeal submitted by an investigative agency on extension of the prison terms of Azerbaijani human rights activist Leyla Yunus, who is director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy, and attorney Intigam Aliyev.

The court passed judgments to extend Yunus’ prison term to four months, and that of Aliyev to three months, lawyer Javad Javadov told APA news agency of Azerbaijan.

Later on, the court rejected the attorneys’ petitions to commute the defendants’ imprisonment to house arrest.

Javadov added that Intigam Aliyev’s health deteriorated during the hearing, and he was taken to the detention facility by car.

Leyla Yunus is accused of national treason and collaborating with Armenia special services.
