Nasimi District Court of Azerbaijan’s capital city of Baku on Wednesday extended, until March 5 of next year, the term of arrest of Arif Yunus, a staff member at the Institute for Peace and Democracy, who is accused of treason.

Turan news agency of Azerbaijan reported the aforementioned citing Yunus’ attorney, Khalid Baghirov.

In his words, the court substantiated the need to extend Yunus’ detention on the grounds of conducting an investigation, questioning numerous witnesses, gathering expert opinions, and on the likelihood that, if released, Yunus may evade interrogation.

Arif Yunus and his wife, Azerbaijani human rights activist Leyla Yunus, are accused of secretly collaborating with individuals, to coordinate operations with the Armenian special services.
