YEREVAN. – On the one hand, the recent Paris meeting between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan inspired optimism, but on the other hand, pessimism that nothing will move forward any more in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace talks.

Armenian political scientist Karen Bekaryan stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Thursday.

In his words, the trust between the two conflicting—i.e., the Armenian and the Azerbaijani—parties is so low that it is impossible to argue that the Azerbaijani party will no longer resort to provocations.

“As a result of the meeting, it became apparent that the parties have a clear position on continuing the work with the existing format, and that such meetings shall be successive,” Bekaryan stressed.

The analyst added that thanks to an interesting strategy which French President François Hollande initiated, it was also recorded that there are some matters over which the positions of Armenia and Azerbaijan can even coincide.
