YEREVAN. - The comprehensive cooperation between Armenia and the European Union in the framework of the Eastern Partnership Program is likely to continue, British expert told Armenian News - NEWS.am.

According to the University of West England Professor Gunter Walzenbach, Ph. D., Armenia’s decision to join the Russia-led Eurasian Union was an unexpected step for many partners.

“The initial response of the European Union stressed the incompatibility between the two forms of integration. However, this position has recently been replaced by soothing and reassuring signals from Brussels,” the expert said.

Doctor Walzenbach stressed that the statements by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, illustrates the change.

“Although the current ‘lighter’ version of the Association Agreement for Armenia does not express it officially, the funds allocated for Armenia in 2014 - 2017 completely illustrate the commitments made in the previous three years,” stressed Gunter Walzenbach.
