YEREVAN. – The process of consolidation of the Turkish-speaking Muslims is in progress today, and if they make progress one day, they will represent a big threat for Armenia. 

Yerevan State University lecturer, theologian Vardan Khachatryan noted the aforementioned at a press conference on Monday. Khachatryan added that Armenia must be ready for such developments. 

As per the theologian, numerous researchers argue that the encroachments upon the Armenians were never carried out by the Islamists, but rather by Turkey. But, according to him, this does not reduce the peril.    

Vardan Khachatryan also expressed a view that the Russian authorities are concerned that the Islamists may come to power in Azerbaijan, too, and therefore they want to quickly settle the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and to form a front in the South Caucasus against potential inroads by the Islamists.
