On July 1, RA President Serzh Sargsyan met with the participants of the 17th conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy. Serzh Sargsyan considers it symbolic that the annual conference of the Assembly is being held in Armenia, one of the cradles of Christianity and civilization, the RA presidential press service informed NEWS.am.

Pointing out the significance of the assembly’s motto, “Preservation of Christian and cultural heritage and peaceful settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the RA President said: “I think this formula is of great value to the settlement of conflict in this complicated region, creation of atmosphere of peace, mutual confidence and stability.”

President Sargsyan commended the aims of the conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, namely, putting an end to extreme nationalism and religious intolerance, protecting human rights, and national and religious minorities.

He welcomed the participants’ decision to visit Nagorno-Karabakh and get familiarized with the Karabakh people’s present challenges to build up their future by free expression of will.

Chairman of the Assembly, RF State Duma member Sergey Popov expressed confidence these consultations will be held in the parliaments of the partner states of the organization and the adopted documents will set leaders and international organizations thinking. 

“We are close to you. You are right, and justice will finally win,” member of the Hellenic delegation to the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy Tilemachos Hitiris said.
