YEREVAN. - Armenia has expanded its export of melons and watermelons in Georgia, Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture Samvel Galstyan told on Tuesday, Armenian News - NEWS.am reports.

According to him, while in 2013 the yield amounted to 208 thousand tons, in 2014 it was already 245 thousand tons.

“We were able to expand our export of watermelons and melons, the high quality of which is well-known,” Galstyan said.

At the same time, according to customs statistics, in January-September of 2014, Armenia has exported 1,556 tons of melons and watermelons in the amount of $147.5 thousand. While in quantitative terms it is almost twice more than in January - September 2013, in value it is almost 2.5 times less (in 2013 the export of Armenian melons and watermelons in Georgia amounted to $362,800).
