YEREVAN. – The construction of Armenia’s new customs checkpoints on the borders with Iran and Georgia will be postponed.
The respective decision was made at Wednesday’s Cabinet session.
The new regional customs office in Armenia’s Syunik Region will be built within the framework of the construction of the interstate highway that will stretch between Armenia’s borders with Iran and Georgia.
But given the fact that this highway’s planning at the Iranian border will be completed in March 2015, the construction will not begin until this planning is completed. Until then, however, solely the future construction site will be prepared.
As for the border with Georgia, the Shirak Regional Customs Office calls for changes in the main plan of Gyumri city, the regional center.
And since these changes will be introduced in December, the acquisition of the necessary land will be pushed back to next year.
