YEREVAN. - Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met on Wednesday with the President of the House Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus Yiannakis Omirou, Armenian News - NEWS.am reports.

According to the press service of the president, Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the Cyprus delegation, noting that the visit would be a good opportunity to thoroughly discuss the Armenian-Cypriot agenda and outline plans of future partnership. Both parties stressed that the people of Cyprus and Armenians have a centuries-long friendship that endured different challenges and continues today, as two independent states strengthen bilateral ties and deepen cooperation.

Yiannakis Omirou added that both nations have adopted and always were guided by the universal values and principles, which among other things allowed them to withstand all challenges of past. He stressed that he visit’s a brother not a foreign state, and that the entire delegation feels the warmth of Armenia.

The parties have agreed that the Armenian-Cypriot relations based on a solid foundation of mutual respect have a great potential for future development. Armenian President and Cyprus Parliament Head stressed the importance of political dialogue between the two states and close partnership in international organizations.

President Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the government and the people of Cyprus - one of the first states in the world that recognized the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Empire and helped Armenian Genocide survivors.
