YEREVAN. – The Azerbaijani side had planned the downing of the Armenian helicopter beforehand.

The Minister of Defense of Armenia, Seyran Ohanyan, stated the abovementioned to reporters on Thursday.

“The helicopter was shot during a training exercise and in our [, the Armenian side’s] territory. I believe this is a violation of all types of norms.

“Surely, they raise [the level of] their combat-readiness during the military exercises, and I believe an instruction was given [to the Azerbaijani Armed Forces] in advance, to shoot [at the chopper],” Ohanyan said.

In the minister’s words, the downing of this helicopter as well as any Azerbaijani provocation to this day have aimed to create tension on the Line of Contact and, as a result, to ensure success for the Azerbaijani side in the Karabakh negotiation process.

The Azerbaijani armed forces violated the ceasefire and shot down an NKR Air Force helicopter on November 12. The chopper was downed during a training flight, and it crashed on the neutral zone of the Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact. As a result, three pilots are believed to have been killed: the commander of the helicopter, Major Sergey Sahakyan, as well as Senior Lieutenant Sargis Nazaryan and Lieutenant Azat Sahakyan. There were no weapons in the chopper. The adversary, on the other hand, continues to fire intensive shots toward the crash site, thus, not allowing access to the area.
