ICANN decided to register a new domain name “.հայ” which means “Armenian” in the Armenian language.

Armenia's Ministry of Transport and Communication of Armenia informed about the launch of the process of technical harmonization, the duration of which is estimated at 3-6 months. This is a very important event for the Armenians all over the world: it will give an opportunity to disseminate information on the web and in the Armenian language by using “.հայ” domain, the Ministry said in a statement.

Using “.հայ”  domain will enhance the knowledge of the Armenian language on the web at the same time helping to expand the use of the Armenian language in everyday life and in further expanding ties between Armenia and the Diaspora.

The domain name “.am” was granted to Armenia in 1994, the right to register was granted to Internet Society NGO which also will be entitled to register a domain name “.հայ”.
