Female MP Sebahat Tuncel of Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) introduced to the country’s parliament  a bill on the recognition of and apology for the massacres that have taken place in Turkey.

The proposed law notes that the President of Turkey shall formally apologize in the parliament on behalf of the Turkish state, and go to the scene of the event on the next day and read the text of the apology there, reported Sondakika website of Turkey.

“Within one year after the formally apology, a special committee shall be set up in the parliament and all state archives related to this subject shall be opened,” the bill states.

It is noted that if this draft law is passed, Turkey will also recognize the Armenian Genocide and mark April 24 as a day of mourning.
