YEREVAN. – Former head of civil aviation department believes Armenia lost aviation due to the policy of open skies.

Shahen Petrosyan is convinced that the open skies policy requires balance when several countries reach agreement. For instance, EU is carrying out open skies policy during 10 years.

“If you announce the open skies policy, the talks should be held with at least several countries,” Petrosyan told reporters on Thursday.

Armenia, Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan should introduce open skies policy within the Eurasian Union, the expert said, adding, however, that Russia will never accept it, especially in the context of western sanctions.

“Stronger West imposes sanctions against Russia, and the latter against us to steal everything we have,” Petrosyan emphasized, adding that Russia appeared to be the closest country to Armenia and took advantage of this policy.
