YEREVAN. – A draft bill on recognition of crimes against humanity will be rejected in Turkish parliament, but will remain on political agenda, expert on Turkic studies Hakob Chakryan said.

Back in 90s people could be arrested only for uttering “genocide” in Turkey.

“The draft bill is rather the merit of EU rather than of Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Thus, Erdogan's tolerance is conditioned by EU demands. This is a serious move, as the demand to face the history is legalized within the country,” Chakryan added.

The expert believes that the bill will not be included in the parliament's agenda, but its appearance is a move forward.

As reported earlier, female MP Sebahat Tuncel of Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) introduced to the country’s parliament  a bill on the recognition of and apology for the massacres that have taken place in Turkey.
