YEREVAN. – Speaker of the Armenian parliament Galust Sahakyan participated in the 41st plenary session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly that was held in Saint Petersburg.

During the plenary session, the delegates elected Valentina Matviyenko as a speaker of the Assembly.

Galust Sahakyan met with the chairman of State Duma Sergey Naryshkin. The speaker of Armenian parliament briefed Naryshkin about Armenia's activities toward accession to the Eurasian Union. He noted that Armenia's Constitutional Court has given positive conclusion, and the process of harmonization of the legislation is in progress.

Naryshkin expressed his readiness to promote friendly ties between the two parliaments in all areas.

On the same day, the Armenian speaker met with President of the Belarus House of Representatives Vladimir Andreychenko. They discussed issues related to development of economic cooperation between the states. Speaking about economic cooperation, Andreychenko noted that Belarus and Armenia should intensify ties.

Galust Sahakyan briefed his Belarus counterpart on the actions of Azerbaijan aimed at preserving regional tension, as well as on the helicopter case and expressed hope that the leadership of Belarus will display balanced position on the issue.

Sahakyan accepted an invitation to visit Belarus.
