YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition National Self-Determination Union (NSU) Chairman, ex-presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan believes that few people were protesting outside the National Assembly building, and against the country’s forthcoming accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) because everyone is convinced that, “Putinism will disappear soon.”

“It should not be said that the fewness [of the demonstrators] is because the people are happy with the EEU entry,” Hayrikyan added at a press conference on Wednesday.

In the NSU leader’s words, the Armenian MPs who voted for the EEU accession, “have put a stigma upon themselves.”

“I don’t know how they will have to justify [themselves] several months later,” Paruyr Hayrikyan noted.

On December 4, the National Assembly ratified the treaty on Armenia’s accession to the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union. The document was ratified by a vote of 103 for, 7 against, and one abstention.
