YEREVAN. – Speaker of the Armenian parliament Galust Sahakyan read out draft statement on the incident with opposition MP Aram Manukyan.

The draft statement says the National Assembly of Armenia is seriously concerned over unacceptable violence used against public figures. The lawmakers expect unbiased actions from the law enforcement agencies to hold those guilty accountable for the crime.

The statement says the incident is in the focus of parliament members and the speaker personally. The parliament condemns assault on any citizen, including a political or public figure.

“We call to refrain from from making statements that could interfere with law enforcement activities and cause unnecessary tension in the society. You are invited to join this statement,” Sahakyan said.

As reported earlier, an unidentified person assaulted and hit Aram Manukyan, an MP from the Armenian National Congress, in the entrance of the building where he lives. In addition, several days ago Karabakh war veterans Razmik Petrosyan, Manvel Yeghiazaryan and Suren Sargsyan were beaten.
