YEREVAN. – We expect the January session of the Cooperation Council to become a new phase in the development of Armenia-European Union (EU) relations.
The Head of the Delegation of the EU to Armenia, Ambassador Traian Hristea, stated the above-said at a press conference on Tuesday. He noted this in response to a query on what the EU believes is the best-case scenario in its relations with Armenia.
As per the EU official, the most realistic scenario will be the best-case scenario in future correlations.
“We have now entered a phase, during which we want to see and comprehend the future legal framework for cooperation. We want to understand what to include in the [cooperation] agreement and in which directions we want to continue cooperation.
“[But] this is certainly not the end of the preparation of the agreement; it’s just the beginning of the negotiations to reach agreement,” Ambassador Hristea stated.
He added, however, that we should not forget that the respective preparations are carried out not solely in Armenia, but in the EE and the EU member states which, for their part, need to provide a mandate for new talks.
