YEREVAN. – Armenia wants to again exempt Internet transit from the value-added tax (VAT).

Minister of Economy Karen Chshmarityan submitted, at Tuesday’s special parliamentary session, the respective amendments to the Law on Value Added Tax.

Until the end of 2012, no VAT was charged for the Internet transit between Georgia and Iran via Armenia. But, as per the minister, when the VAT was imposed in 2013, it made the respective Armenia-based companies uncompetitive in the quite tense regional market.

To restore the competitiveness of the Armenian companies, the zero-VAT policy is planned to be reinstated. Moreover, this will be applicable also for the period starting from January 1, 2013.
