YEREVAN. – The year 2014 was full of certain accomplishments in foreign policy, but it was slightly weak in economic terms.

Opposition Heritage Party National Assembly (NA) Faction Secretary Tevan Poghosyan and ruling Republican Party (RPA) NA Faction member Karine Achemyan expressed such a view at a press conference on Thursday.

“We [, Armenia,] will have a huge dependence on the fluctuations in the economic growth of our neighboring countries, and this does not inspire confidence that a real economic development will take place in Armenia,” Poghosyan said, in particular.

Achemyan, on the other hand, expressed the hope that Armenia’s forthcoming accession to the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union will enable progress for the country.

“I very much hope that this union will establish, since our [, Armenia’s] economic situation also depends on the establishment of this union,” she specifically added.

The RPA MP also expressed the hope that the people in Armenia will have less reason to complain in the coming year.

Heritage’s MP, for his part, said that 2014 was a year of great progress in the foreign relations of Armenia, and added that the country’s opposition forces achieved numerous successes in domestic politics.
