YEREVAN. – The Armenian government confirmed criteria for energy efficiency requirements for the buildings under construction at the expense of budget funds.

The criteria presented by the Minister of Urban Development Narek Sargsyan were approved at a government meeting on Thursday.

As noted in a written explanation for the decision, in 2007 the national program of energy efficiency and renewable energy, potential saving of energy in the buildings throughout the country was estimated at 40 percent.

New energy-saving materials and technologies increase the cost of construction by 5-10% only, but it pays off in 7-8 years due to saving of energy and lower maintenance costs of buildings.
