YEREVAN. – National Assembly Vice-Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, who is also Press Secretary of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, extended his condolences on the passing of Ambassador of Armenia to Germany Vahan Hovhannisyan, who also was a notable figure of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party.  

“Our friend, my senior friend from whom we have learned many things, one of the brightest figures of the Armenian political arena, [and] one of the key figures of the Armenian political system has passed away.

“The social and political life of the country is one thing with Vahan Hovhannisyan and it is one thing without Vahan Hovhannisyan because he was a patriotic, professional, humorous, friendly, [and] ideological figure,” Sharmazanov specifically stated in his message of condolence.

Vahan Hovhannisyan, who was fighting a severe illness for a long time, died on Sunday. A governmental commission, led by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, has been set up to organize the funeral services for Hovhannisyan, who was born in capital city Yerevan on August 16, 1956.
