The communication between Russia and Transcaucasia needs to be maximally developed through the Caucasus Mountains, Russian political scientist Alexander Skakov told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Commenting on the business deal signed between the Petrocas Energy Group company of Georgia and the Rosneft state-run company of Russia, the analyst stressed that the improvement of Russia-Georgia relations is very important for Armenia, too.

“Today, there is only one road connecting Russia with Armenia, and this is very little. A new road needs to be built, and the presence of a working railway is indispensible,” Skakov said, in particular.

At the same time, however, he stressed that since the status of Abkhazia is not yet determined, the resumption of the Abkhazian railway is impossible for the moment.

“We need to think about new projects. The communication between Russia and Transcaucasia needs to be maximally developed through the Caucasus Mountains; this will be beneficial for Georgia, Russia, and Turkey, alike,” Alexander Skakov maintained.
