YEREVAN. – The year 2014 was marked by a further deepening and strengthening of strategic allied relations with the Russian Federation (RF), the Armenia MFA annual report stated.

As per the report, during the meetings that were held throughout the year between the senior officials of the two countries, strategic agreements have been reached with respect to the expansion and deepening of cooperation.

On February 7, 2014, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan attended in Sochi, Russia, the opening ceremony of the XXII Olympic Winter Games.

On May 8 and August 9, 2014, President Sargsyan visited Russia, and held talks with RF President Vladimir Putin.

On July 6 and 7, 2014, Armenian National Assembly Speaker Galust Sahakyan paid an official visit to Moscow.

On July 11, 2014, an agreement was signed in Sochi, pursuant to which a facilitated procedure will be implemented with respect to the Armenian and the Russian citizens’ stay in one another’s countries.

And on December 20, 2014, the Armenian and the Russian governments signed a cooperation agreement on extending the operation period of the second energy unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant.

In addition, as per the annual report, the Armenia and the Russia FMs have held more than a dozen meetings all through the year past.
