YEREVAN. – Emotional attitude towards Gyumri tragedy is understandable, but this does not suggest the need for reviewing Armenia-Russia relations, Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian said during a press conference on Monday.

Asked whether the Armenian authorities are satisfied with relations with the Russians, in the context of Gyumri tragedy, the Minister recalled that Armenia and Russia have allied and strategic relations.

“Emotions are understandable, but I do not think it is appropriate to talk about the review of relations,” he said.

Minister Nalbandian recalled that on the day of a tragedy the President held consultations with the heads of law enforcement agencies, gave instructions and noted the crime must be disclosed in short terms, while those guilty must be punished to the full extent of the law.

As to whether there was violation of bilateral agreement by the Russian side, the Minister said that according to the existing order, in case of disagreement in the interpretation of the documents the parties appeal to foreign ministry and hold talks on the establishment of a commission to address such issues. If such a commission is created and there is still no result, the problem is solved diplomatically.
