YEREVAN. – Azerbaijan, by creating a border tension, is attempting, first and foremost, to influence the international organizations so that Armenia makes greater concessions in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenian Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan told reporters on Wednesday.

“[But] our neighbors don’t realize that dialogue is the only way which can bring about a resolution of the matter with peaceful, political conditions.

“Mutual consent is the creation of a climate of trust. (…) And the creation of a climate of trust primarily depends on us, which is carried out mainly on the frontlines.

“Unfortunately, our neighbors are refusing all that, in an attempt to have an effect in such a way on the Armenian side,” Ohanyan said.

As per the minister, Azerbaijan’s efforts to escalate the border tension also aim to divert the Azerbaijani society’s attention from the domestic political problems to the frontlines.

“But the Armenian armed forces and the NKR (i.e., Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) Defense Army fully control the situation, and deal the deserving counterblow to all inroads [by the Azerbaijani side],” Seyran Ohanyan specifically said.

He added that even though the shootings have increased in recent days, the situation on the border is under control.
