YEREVAN. – The Armenian parliament is preparing a draft statement condemning genocide of Greeks and Assyrians in the Ottoman Empire in 1914-1923, Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov said during a meeting with the Assyrian and Greek community representatives.

Deputy Speaker said Our task is to make the world community realize that unless humanity condemns the crimes, there is a threat that they may repeat.

“When speaking about Armenian Genocide, we imply the genocide of Assyrians and Greeks,” Sharmazanov said.

He expressed confidence that the draft statement on genocide of Greeks and Assyrians will be adopted by the Armenian parliament.

“"The world must realize that we must condemn the genocide, it is impossible to carry out a policy of genocide. This is not directed against any country, it is done for the sake of historical truth, human rights protection and for the sake of commemorating the memory of Armenian Genocide victoms,” Deputy Speaker added.

Sharmazanov added that it is not a party initiative: “I think that the representatives of all parliamentary factions will sign the statement. We started this process with Vahan Hovhannisyan. We will do everything so that this project could be approved until April 24”.
