YEREVAN. – It is impossible to close the door that is locked from inside, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tigran Balayan told Armenian News-NEWS.am asked to comment on the statement by Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

During his visit to Columbia, Erdogan said it was Armenia that closed “the door of peace”.

“We know that Armenian Diaspora has launched a negative campaign against Turkey. We have spared no efforts for opening a new chapter. On the 100th anniversary we offered to transfer the issue from political into scientific level. We have invited to Gallipoli on April 24, but Armenia closed the door of peace,” he said.

Turkey previously marked the anniversary of Gallipoli Battle on March 18, not April 24.

Prior to Turkey's decision to shift the date, Armenian leader Serzh Sargsyan invited Erdogan to visit Yerevan on April 24, 2015, to attend events marking Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. However, Erdogan has not responded to the invitation so far.
