YEREVAN. – Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian on Wednesday received the visiting United States (US) Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Victoria Nuland.  

Nalbandian gave a high assessment to the Armenia-US partnership, and expressed the hope that bilateral cooperation will grow deeper. Nuland, for her part, noted that the US attaches great importance to the development of cooperation with Armenia, and stands ready to make additional efforts in this respect.

At the ensuing talk, the interlocutors discussed the joint steps to be taken to expand bilateral relations. The political discourse and cooperation within international platforms also were on the agenda of the meeting.

The US assistant secretary of state expressed gratitude for Armenia’s active involvement in peacekeeping operations, and stressed the country’s positive achievements in several domains.    

They also reflected on the prospects for the enhancement of Armenian-American economic collaboration, implementation of joint projects, and the encouragement of investments. 

FM Nalbandian highlighted that ever since Armenia’s independence in 1991, the US has rendered substantial assistance to Armenia’s development and the ongoing reforms in the country.

The interlocutors also appreciated the entering into force of the bilateral agreement on the facilitation of visa issuance regimen.

In addition, Nalbandian and Nuland conferred on urgent regional and international matters. In connection with the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, they shared the view that all possible efforts should be made to achieve solely a peaceful settlement to this conflict. In this regard, FM Nalbandian underscored the US contribution and role as a co-chairing country of the OSCE Minsk Group.

At the end of the talk, Edward Nalbandian asked Victoria Nuland to convey his greetings and best wishes to US Secretary of State John Kerry, and reconfirmed the invitation extended to him to visit Armenia’s capital city Yerevan.
