YEREVAN. – A Russian church began to be built, about two years ago, nearby the road leading from the airport of Armenia’s capital city Yerevan to downtown, Aravot daily reported.

“This church is being constructed under the patronage of chairman Ara Abrahamyan of the Union of Armenians of Russia. Abrahamyan had assured, back in September 2013, that the church construction was to be completed in October 2014, but it is constructed to this day, and solely 3-4 workers are working.

“Presumably, at the time Mr. Abrahamyan had noted a precise time being encouraged by the Armenian president’s announcement, in the same month of the same year, about Armenia’s accession to the [Russia-led] Customs Union and the EEU [i.e. the Eurasian Economic Union], and [therefore] he tried to prove the authenticity of the age-old Armenian-Russian friendship and wanted to quickly finish the [construction of the] church.

“[But] who knows, maybe Armenia will get out of the Russian union faster than they complete the [construction of the] church,” Aravot wrote.
