On February 27, an event in remembrance of the victims of the Sumgait atrocities took place in the French city of Alfortville. It was organized by Nazarbek Youth Union of the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party.

The film “Sumgait: Unpunished Crime” by the Tsir Katin (Milky Way) Studio was shown at the event, after which Permanent Representative of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic to France Hovhannes Gevorgian delivered a speech.

He read out the testimonies of the Sumgait pogroms' survivors, which were published in the book “The Sumgait Tragedy” by former Foreign Minister of France, co-founder of “Doctors without Borders” and “Doctors Worldwide” organizations, Bernard Kouchner. Hovhannes Gevorgian reminded that the Sumgait pogroms had been premeditated and planned.

Parallel was drawn between the Armenian Genocide and the Sumgait pogroms. Also, the issues related to the Artsakh Movement, its history, and the current stage of the national-liberation struggle were touched upon.

Local public-political figures, journalists, and representatives of the Armenian community were present at the event.
