YEREVAN. – The National Assembly of Armenia on Wednesday approved, in the second and final reading, the draft amendments to the law on the pension and services rendered to the former presidents of the country.

The said bill passed by a vote of 87 for, 1 against, and 12 abstentions.

Pursuant to the new law, the ex-presidents of Armenia will now receive a pension in the amount of 70 percent of the salary of the president in office, and, at present, this translates into 924,000 drams (approx. $1,930), per month.

In addition, the previous law had specified that a former president shall be allocated a furnished office until he/she turns 70 years old. The new law, however, has lifted this age limitation.
