YEREVAN. – The law on the Armenian judiciary’s independence from the prosecution will be strengthened.

The ruling Republican Party of Armenia MPs have submitted a bill on making the appropriate amendments to the Law on Prosecution, and this proposed law was approved at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting.

According to the written rationalization of this bill, at present, the administration of the Prosecutor’s Office has the right to re-establish the charge at the proposal of the court. But back in April 2010, this provision was declared unconstitutional, since the court has no right to have any bearing on either the prosecution or the defense. The provision on the court being independent and impartial is detailed in the Constitution of Armenia.
