YEREVAN. – If Supreme Commander Vazgen Sargsyan had been alive, he would have been proud of the Armenian army.

The Minister of Defense of Armenia, Seyran Ohanyan, told the abovementioned to reporters on Thursday at the Yerablur Military Pantheon in capital city of Yerevan, as he visited Sargsyan’s tomb on his birth anniversary.

“The Supreme Commander’s dream was to create, improve and develop the Armenian army, and today, the leadership of the Armenian Armed Forces, together with the entire staff, is improving this organization,” the minister said.

As per Ohanyan, had Sargsyan been living today, he would have had his special place in the state government system of Armenia.

Statesman, political figure, National Hero of Armenia, Hero of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), late PM, Supreme Commander Vazgen Sargsyan would have turned 56 on Thursday, March 5, 2015.

Sargsyan was an Armenian military commander and politician. He was the first Defense Minister of Armenia from 1991 to 1992 and then from 1995 to 1999. He also served as Prime Minister from June 11, 1999 until his assassination in the parliament on October 27 of that year.
