Situation in the Karabakh conflict zone remains unstable, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said.

“After escalation that was registered at the beginning of the year, there was stand-down in the second half of February,” Lukashevich said, adding that the OSCE monitoring mission admitted the situation was calmer.

However, the recent data received in early March suggested a new surge in ceasefire violations, he said. “Unfortunately, there were casualties”.

Andrzej Kasprzyk conducted monitoring on the line of contact on Wednesday and will prepare a report.

“I believe that more detailed information about the situation on the ground can be provided by the OSCE monitors,” Lukashevich emphasized.

Representative of Russian Foreign Minister has urged the parties to exercise restraint, to avoid actions that would lead to further increase in tensions, to remain committed to a peaceful solution to the conflict, as stated at the summit in Sochi last August.
