YEREVAN. – Azerbaijan gets  85 percent of weapons from Russia, opposition MP and former Foreign Minister Alexander Arzumanyan said during the meeting of EU-Armenian Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

As a proof he cited the reported issues by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) about military expenditures, including Azerbaijan's import of weapons from 2010 to 2014. According to the report, Azerbaijan has increased the purchase of weapons 3.5 times.

Arzumanyan said it is very much concerning that, according to this report, 85 percent of weapons are purchased from Russia, the co-chairing state of the OSCE Minsk Group. As a mediator, Russia is obliged to refrain from supplying weapons to the parties. Azerbaijan has increased the frequency of ceasefire violation cases, and civilian objects often become a target.

“This policy has brought to unprecedented number of victims among the three parties,” Arzumanyan said pointing to Armenia, Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh.

Unfortunately, the recent developments do not pin hopes, and Azerbaijan continues undermining peace talks.
