YEREVAN. – The Armenian capital city Yerevan hotel accommodation fees have risen ahead of April 24, the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, and there are no vacancies either, Hraparak daily reported.

“If, previously, you could live in quality hotels in Yerevan for 60-80 thousand drams [approx. $126-169] per day, the prices currently range in the whereabouts of 120-200 thousand drams [approx. $253-421].

“Naturally, the hotels say the price increase is seasonal, or [the price] has not risen and simply there is no discount in those days, or the [price] increase is due to demand, etc.

“According to our information, the highest-level meeting is planned in the near future with the heads of hotels. But the [Armenian] state does not have any leverage to have an effect on the hotel [accommodation] prices. But the authorities are now trying to regulate something.

“By the way, the expenses of several guests arriving [in Yerevan to participate in the genocide centennial commemorations] will be covered by the state budget,” Hraparak wrote.
