YEREVAN. – The Armenian Genocide Centennial marks a new stage for the international recognition of the crime, MP Karen Avagyan said in the parliament on Tuesday.

Another European organization, Democrat Youth Community of Europe (DEMYC), has joined the list of structures that have recognized the Armenian Genocide, Avagyan said.

The statement issued by DEMYC “condemned the genocidal acts against the Armenian people, planned and continuously perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire and various regimes of Turkey in 1894-1923.”

“We call upon the Government of Turkey to respect and realize fully the legal obligations which it has undertaken including those provisions which relate to the protection of cultural heritage and, in particular, to conduct in good faith an integrated inventory of Armenian and other cultural heritage destroyed or ruined during the past century,” the statement said.

Karen Avagyan added that organization members will travel to Yerevan on April 23-26 where DEMYC will hold council meeting. They will participate in the events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial.

The event will be hosted by DEMYC full member, the youth branch of the Republican Party of Armenia.
