The chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania, Benediktas Juodka, has fallen into the trap of the Azerbaijani media.

Juodka, speaking to Haqqin.az news agency of Azerbaijan, had called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to find a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which will be acceptable to both parties.

The Azerbaijani press, however, interpreted this statement as a “support to Azerbaijan.”

“Lithuania has always respected the fundamental principle of international law: The territorial integrity of states. We respect the borders and sovereignty of our neighbors.

“As an EU member state, we [also] fully support the EU efforts to cooperate with the [OSCE] Minsk Group,” Haqqin.az quoted the Lithuanian MP as saying.

The statement, however, says nothing about “supporting Azerbaijan.”

And as for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, Nagorno-Karabakh has never been part of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
