Hundreds of former and current employees of Nairit chemical rubber plant of Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, and who demand their unpaid salaries, have assembled outside the Government Building since early Thursday morning.

They are demanding a specific timetable for the payment of their due wages.

The plant workers are also holding signs and chanting: “Prime Minister, come down!”

The Nairit employees, however, do not mind if another official receives them and submits a clear timetable for the repayment of debts.

“They’re not saying to us that they won’t give us our debts; they say they will give, but it’s not known when,” Nairit CJSC former Press Secretary Anush Harutyunyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am. “We demand specificity.”

She added that they do not resort to drastic measures, since they are not being told that their overdue salaries will not be paid.

As reported earlier, a total of 1,700 Nairit workers were formally discharged as of February 6. The 18 to 24 months of unpaid wages of the employees of Nairit chemical rubber plant, which no longer operates, total Armenian drams equivalent to approximately $15 million. The workers have assembled outside the Government Building and the Office of the President numerous times and demanded a solution to their problems.
