President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan who is on a state visit to China on Thursday attended Tiananmen Square in Beijing where he laid flowers to the Monument to the People's Heroes.

President Sargsyan held a meeting with Zhang Dejiang, chairman of the standing committee of National People's Congress.

Welcoming the Armenian leader, Zhang Dejiang noted that China has a reliable partner, Armenia, and the dynamically developing political dialogue is based on mutual respect and confidence.

He underscored importance of Sargsyan's visit to China and his talks with Xi Jinping, adding that negotiations will give an impetus to bilateral relations. Chairman of the standing committee of National People's Congress noted the role of inter-parliamentary cooperation in the development of close ties.

In turn, President Sargsyan said he considers Armenia-China relations one of the priorities of Armenia's foreign policy and attaches major significance to deepening of relations with China, one of the oldest civilizations and one of the most influential actors in the world.

The interlocutors shared the view that efficient cooperation within international agencies and mutual support have enhanced confidence and friendship between the states.

Following the meeting with chairman of the standing committee of National People's Congress, President Sargsyan visited the Summer Palace that is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Armenian leader is expected to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Li Keqiang.
