YEREVAN. – The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia, Yervand Zakharyan, on Tuesday received five employees from the Nairit chemical rubber plant of capital city Yerevan.

Nairit CJSC former Press Secretary Anush Harutyunyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the minister, however, had promised them nothing, and therefore they no longer have any expectations from him.

As per Harutyunyan, she had told Zakharyan that if the matter of the Nairit workers’ unpaid salaries is not resolved, they will take extreme measures, but the minister had responded that he could not do anything about this issue.

Anush Harutyunyan added that they will continue their protests.

To note, the Nairit employees demand a specific timetable for the payment of their due wages.

As reported earlier, a total of 1,700 Nairit workers were formally discharged as of February 6. The 18 to 24 months of unpaid wages of the employees of Nairit chemical rubber plant, which no longer operates, total Armenian drams equivalent to approximately $15 million. The workers have assembled outside the Government Building and the Office of the President numerous times, and demanded a solution to their salary-related problems.
