YEREVAN. – Within the framework of the Armenian Genocide centenary commemorations, the primary and high school students of Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan will take turns in standing honor guards near the eternal flame at the Armenian Genocide Memorial, and from Wednesday, April 1, until April 24.

The person behind this initiative is the Minister of Education and Science, Armen Ashotyan, who was present to Thursday’s launch of this ceremony at the memorial.

Ashotyan noted that this may become an annual ritual, and the regional school students also will take part in it next year.

Speaking to Armenian News-NEWS.am, the minister added that he is not against the students missing some school hours in order to stand honor guards at the Genocide memorial.

The Yerevan schoolchildren will stand honor guards between 10am and 6pm. In addition, a different capital city school will be responsible each day for the shift, and four-member groups of schoolchildren will replace one another every thirty minutes.
