YEREVAN. – Construction of a hydro power plant near the Armenian border town of Meghri will be the first program to be implemented by Armenia and Iran after the sanctions are lifted, expert in Iranian studies Gohar Iskandaryan said.

Iran and the six powers have agreed on a framework agreement on the nuclear program earlier the month. The parties labeled talks as “historic” and expect to sign a final agreement by the end of June.

As regards the railway, Iskandaryan believes Armenia needs it more than Iran does.

“Iran appears to have political interest in the railway,” she emphasized. “I am convinced that Armenia's leadership has political will to expand cooperation with Iran, but financing is a problem. I hope this problem will be solved,” she added.
