CSTO member states must take preventive steps to neutralize the emerging threats in the area of their responsibility, CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha said.

“We need to take preventive steps that would ensure neutralization of various challenges that the countries are faced with,”said Mr. Bordyuzha after a meeting with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk on Monday.

CSTO chief pointed at difficult situation in east European direction with the concentration of military infrastructure near the borders of Russia and Belarus, RIA Novosti reported.

Bordyuzha spoke about building up the presence of heavy weaponry, including by relocating troops of U.S. in the region.

In addition, CSTO chief said there are other hotbeds of tension in the area, adding that there is escalation trend when it comes to protracted conflicts, Transnistria and Karabakh.

There is also a complicated situation in the Central Asian region, it is first of all about Afghanistan.
